I used to be one of those people who thought yogis were some weird hippies who talk about their auras all the time and do alien-like shapes.
Well...obviously my mind-set has changed.
I had been thinking about doing yoga for a few months but I was really intimidated by all the other yogis. When I looked at all the poses everyone else was doing, it was hard to believe that I could ever come close to achieving anything like it.
A couple weeks ago, I finally took the plunge and never looked back. I’ve been following a few beginner videos on YouTube and loving them. My first practice was one heck of a roller coaster. At first I thought “well this isn’t too hard” but before I knew it, I was begging to be back in child’s pose every two minutes. I was super sore afterwards but after a few more practice, my body actually started cooperating. I’m still not able to do the downward facing dog right, but i'm getting there.
For a long time, I have been trying to get into the habit of working out but I have never been able to do so consistently. I guess I’m not a typical exercise kind of person, which might be why I’m really liking yoga. It's very smooth and calm-you don't get as agitated like you do when you're working out. It’s been very interesting to learn more about yoga and realizing that it is so much more than morphing your body into extraordinary shapes. You get to mediate and connect more with your inner self. I was incredibly surprised with how good and at peace i felt with myself after meditating for less than 10 minutes.
I’m currently doing Yoga with Adrienne’s 30 Days of Yoga Revolution and I have already noticed lots of improvements on my part which has been very motivating and exciting. A year ago, if you had told me that I would be voluntarily practicing yoga, I would have laughed at your face so hard. It's amazing how much your beliefs evolve as time passes.
I haven’t committed to a specific type of yoga as of yet. Right now, I’m practicing a little bit of everything and trying to “find what feels good” as Adrienne from Yoga with Adrienne would say. I’m excited to document my journey - I can’t wait to see how far this takes me.
I created a Yoga Pinterest board to learn some poses and inspire me to keep practicing.

Do you have any tips for an out-of-shape momma who is looking to start yoga?
ReplyDeleteJust start at the most basic level and work your way from there :)
DeleteI started doing yoga last semester when I took it for my gym elective, and I absolutely fell in love with it! It's such a great way to clear your head while also getting in your exercise for the day. Good luck on your yoga journey, can't wait to read more about it!

DeleteI love Yoga With Adriene and I love yoga! It always makes me so happy when other people first discover it. Have you ever taken a class at a studio? Every now and then I like to drop in for a class. The atmosphere is so different and much more inspiring, in my opinion. Good luck and have fun!
